Soundimage Composers - Martijn de Man

Martijn de Man(1969) started his professional music career as a keyboard-player for the Dutch rock band Urban Heroes. Although he enjoyed performing 'live', he developed a greater interest in composing. After the band split up in 1995, Martijn focused on writing music and established himself as a composer for all kinds of multimedia, like documentaries, television commercials and motion pictures. The choice to become a full time composer proved to be the right one - between 1995 and 2001 Martijn composed music for various tv-commercials and documentaries.

Highlights include an 8-channel surround sound production featuring the history of Rotterdam and a Dolby 5.1 Digital track for a Theme Park Ride in China.

2001 was the start of collaboration with independent filmmakers in the USA. Thanks to the possibilities of the Internet Martijn was able to participate in projects all over the country from Boston to Los Angeles and San Francisco. These projects have given the composer a chance to explore the craft of writing film-music to a deeper level, due to the diversity of movie-projects like Kathy Fitzgerald's Messiah and Jason Santos' Again.

Martijn's style is best described as a mix of classical flavors and electronic counterparts, but more important he understands the craft of writing film-music. It is this talent that filmmakers appreciate most. Martijn is able to craft his music to images, always to support it's impact and never to overrule it. Martijn says about it: 'I see myself as a kind of storyteller and actor. The movie is the story and my music should behave as a good actor'.
